Evidence of Rough Cut Feedback and Making Improvements

This is our feedback for our Rough Cut version of our film "Hacked". The feedback is from our Target audience. We had invited our target audience to watch our film twice. The first time just watching it all through normally. But then the second time they would have to shout "Stop" to suggest an improvement for a particular part in our film, or if they saw a mistake or problem at a particular part.

Here are all the Improvements, criticisms and problems our target audience (16-21) raised up when they shouted "Stop" (when they shout "stop" we simply stop the clip and let them discuss what they want to raise up).

The first thing that was raised up was that the crane shot was too long nothing too major but it was a little bit too long. The suggestions for improvements that were raised was simply to cut a little bit. The way in which we improved this shot was then simply cutting the establishing shot (with the use of the crane shot) by just a few seconds to make it shorter.

The second problem that was raised was the sudden change in lighting and minor problem with the transition, so it was suggested that we should sort this. We discussed this among our film group

A sound of the dolly movements on the ground that was heard behind the actual music was a third issue that was also bought up by our target audience. A suggestion were bought also at this point was that maybe there should be a new sound effect when the new character is introduced. Another thing suggested was that there were no need to have the recorded sound from the camera of the wind, which is not needed.

A fourth problem which was raised by our target audience was that when the business man was walking up to the door (in the close shot after the long panning shot of him walking up the drive to the door) he appeared to have paused at the start of that shot when he was walking. So the suggestion was to shift the clip a tiny amount.

The sound of the door closing was also an issue raised by our target audience as even though it was the real door sound, it didn't seem realistic as to relation to our film genre and our film. the suggestion for this was to add a more realistic door sound effect.

Another issue which was raised was how quick the door had shut, so in the shot which shows the business man walking through the hall in the house, with the front door in the background, all of a sudden in the next shot filmed from inside the kitchen, the door appeared to have suddenly been shut. The target audience didn't see the door shut in the previous shot.

The point of view shot which was used was bought up from our target audience and the suggestion was that we needed to improve this shot more and emphasise it more. A suggestion to improve this was to pan this shot

Another point that was raised was the titles, there was a suggestion that instead of having most titles appear in one shot appearing in different corners, just have one title like a name of the actor appear when the actor is in shot during the chasing scene.

The next point that raised was the shot of the Hacker's feet. Our Target Audience understood the shot that we were trying to do, but however it was when it cut from the Hacker's feet straight to the business man walking down the road. It almost seemed as if the hacker's feet had gone and wondered off. So the suggestion that was made to improve this was have the shot of him running along the road, then cut to the close up shot of his feet to emphasise that he is running then cut back to the shot of him running on the road. This makes the editing more quicker paced and snappy.

Also our target audience got confused by the laptop bag shot towards the end of opening, they were unsure of what was going on. Only some just about understood that a laptop had fallen out of the bag, but the majority of our target audience hadn't realised this. The suggestions for this was to add a different transition in at the end or make the shot of the laptop falling out of the bag more quicker.

At the end of opening our target audience criticised the smirk that on the hacker's face at the end.

We are all going to discuss these suggestions for improvements and issues and will take action where necessary. Overall, everyone thought our film was good.

Evidence Of Ident Construction

This is our evidence for our group constructing the Film ident. The reason for constructing our film ident is because we wanted to make it our own, and plus it was also what we had to complete to go at the start of our film. The film ident identifies what production company our film was produced by. We used software called Motion. The software we used was very good and we were able to achieve a very good and professional looking ident for our film. With our production company we wanted to have the name "Limelight Productions" which was our production company, so we therefore wanted to create an ident that had some relations to our production name.

So for example, our production name has the name "Limelight" in it, so our aims were to try and get some colour which was the colour lime green. Due to this we wanted to try and have some lights in there as well that had the colour lime green in them. In the end we managed to create some text for our ident which was "Limelight Productions". To also add extra effect to our film, we decided to add a shiny lime green light on the words "Limelight Productions" making the text shiny and also standing out.

Here is a screenshot showing evidence of our group constructing our production company ident.

Editing

In this post, I will be showing example of our group's editing of our film. To do this I will be showing screenshots of work being done from both softwares which we used to create our film which are Final Cut and Soundtrack Pro. I will briefly explain the advantages and disadvantages of using softwares Final Cut and Soundtrack Pro. I will also describe how they work and we used them to edit our film.

Video Editing in Progress

The advantages of using Final Cut Pro is that it allows you to view several key pieces of information at once. Here is an example of how you can do this in a screenshot below. In this screenshot you can clearly see that all the clips are imported into the Project (Top Left), The current clip you are editing (Top Middle), what the clips on the timeline show (Top Right), and where each clip is on the timeline (Bottom). You can refer back to previous clips without having to switch different windows which can cause confusion at times. It therefore allow you to see everything at once, and you can work much more better, which is what makes this an advantage. Next the Software allows you to drag clips onto the timeline, and move them around with the use of the snap tool. It allows you to move the clips easily, switch and take out clips onto the timeline. without it causing any interference with any other clips. It allows you to re-shape the timeline easily. By this you can also increase or decrease a clips' length within the timeline itself. You are then able to view the effecting change immediately.
The work that you can see below in the screen shot is our group playing back the sound we have just imported in from Soundtrack Pro (see heading below) and we are playing back the timeline to make sure the sound is in sync with the film clips.

 Sound Editing in Progress

The advantages of using Soundtrack Pro is that it allows you to edit and manipulate several different sound channels at once. So the advantage is as the same with the software Final Cut Pro, but only this time it's just the sound that this software Soundtrack Pro allows you to view and listen to. You can (depending on what sound/effect you are after) alter the volume, change the pitch or crossfade different sounds together to make one continuous sound that flows from several different sound files. Another advantage of Soundtrack Pro is that it contains, within the software a sound library of thousands tracks of pieces of music and sound effects which we can then use in conjunction with the sound recorded with foley kit and camera.

The workflow that you can see in the screenshot below is our group playing back the clip with our group's foley sounds. Here we are checking the sound matches the video footage that we have imported into the software.
