Evaluation Question 5-How did you attract/address your audience?
In this question I will be describing and explaining how we attracted and addressed our audience.
In our film our audience will find our film "Hacked" appealing to them due to the themes that are in our film.
The first theme that I will be talking about is the tense chase in the film. In our film there is a chase between our protagonist and antagonist, it is very tense as this business man knows this Hacker has hacked into his software and found out about this secret high bank scheme and has tried to destroy it.
So the Business man is after him chasing him. Now our BBFC classification is a 12, because our film has this theme in so it is very tense and scary and may not be suitable for an age range below this, so the audience of an age range over 12 will find this theme very appealing, also because it is what would be seen a lot in thriller films.

Between these two print screens you can see the chase between the Hacker and the Business Man. We had a chase because this is one of the elements in our film that would attract our BBFC audience and our target audience. The reason for this is because it makes it more tense and leaves the audience wondering where it's going to lead to and what's going to happen.
Now here is an example of a chase from the film Die Hard 4.0, this attracted an audience as it the film was very popular and was very tense. This is how it appealed to their audience.
Now even the technical elements would appeal to our audience. The chase I was just talking about, was edited in our film in a very effective way. We had quick paced cut edited the shots from a close up shot of the hacker's feet to then a long shot of him running, revealing his body language. This quick paced editing was used to rise the tension. The audience then also realize and remember that this film is defiantly a thriller they are watching. The close up shot of the hacker's feet was to emphasize the fact he was running.
In my embedded film here at 1.34 time into the film, you will start to see the quick editing cut shots between the Hacker's feet and a long shot of him running. This helps to rise the tension and to make it more exciting. This is how it attracts our audience.
Now another example of quick editing shots being used in our film is from the film Die Hard 4.0. At 1.25 time into this embed of the trailer of Die Hard 4.0 you can see a good example of quick editing cut shots.
This point of the film was picked up on by our target audience when they watched our final cut version of our film. They said they really liked the idea of using a close up shot of the hacker's feet as it emphasized the fact well that he was running. They also liked the quick paced editing between those shots as it rose the tension.
In our film there is tense music played in the background throughout all of the opening. This is a theme that appeals a lot to our audience. It's a theme that probably appeals one of the most. Tense music is played throughout a lot in thriller films especially at very important of the films. Our audience will defiantly realize and will always remember that our film is a thriller due to the tense music being played throughout. The tense music matches the story and the mood of our thriller film "Hacked".
To hear an example of this soundtrack see the embedded video second one up from here.
Now here is an example of how tense music is used and how it appeals to our audience from the film "Taken"
Another theme in our film that our audience will find appealing is the mystery intrigue. In the opening of our film "Hacked" there is a mystery character introduced. Nothing about the character is introduced and even the location he is in isn't revealed. The mystery man says one line which is a threatening line. So this is causing a lot of mystery intrigue and suspicion for the audience as they're not sure who this character is. This mystery intrigue is used a lot in thriller films and will appeal to our audience, so therefore when our audience watch our film, they will defiantly realize that our film is a thriller.
Here is a print screen showing the mystery character. As you can see the location he is in is not revealed so it causes more mystery intrigue for our audience. So this attracts our audience as they will be wondering who this person is, so they'd be wondering also if he is a bad person or a good person.
Now in the print screen below, there is a character from the film "Source Code". This person is unsure of who he is. So this element mystery intrigue will attract our audience, as they will be gripped by it, and will be left wondering what is going to happen further on in the film.

At the end of opening of our film, there is a real tense cliffhanger when the Hacker comes face to face with the Business Man which is the man who was chasing the Hacker. Cliffhanger is one of the most effective themes and elements used in thriller films. It is used to leave the audience what is going to happen next. It will definitely appeal to our audience as when they watch the cliffhanger at the end of our opening film, they will want to see more and find out what is going to happen next. Because of this cliffhanger they will most defiantly realize and remember that our film "Hacked" is a thriller.
In this print screen it shows the Hacker shocked when he comes face to face with the business man at the end of the opening of our film. This cliffhanger attracts our audience as it causes mystery intrigue for our audience, as it will make them feel excited about it, and they will then wonder what's going to happen. They will want to watch more of it.
Now here is an example of a cliffhanger from the film "Source Code", the cliffhanger starts at 0.24 into the film. This attracts our audience as you don't expect the main character to be involved in this sudden explosion of the train at the start. So the audience are left wondering whether this character has died or is still alive.
The business man convention in our film will appeal to our audience as the clothing he is wearing and his body language and personality matches the convention. A lot of business man characters are seen in most thriller films, and because of this, when the audience watch our film they will definitely realize and remember that the film they're watching is a thriller film.
Here is an embed showing the clothing our Business man is wearing
Now in the embed below you can see the Business Man from the film "Die Hard 4.0". He isn't wearing a tie, but you can still see that the clothing he is wearing which is a black shirt, is what you'd expect a Business man to be dressed in. He has also got a very modern mobile phone. This attracts our audience because when our audience notice what he's wearing, they will know that he is a business man who is quite powerful. Knowing this they will remember that this film is a thriller that they are watching.
Also the hacking skills in our film is what will definitely intrigue our audience. The hacker in our film hacks into a computer which is typical hacker skill and is what is seen a lot in thriller films. This theme and element of hacking skills will appeal to our audience making them remember that our film is a thriller film they're watching.
In this embed you can see that the Hacker is hacking into a computer. The skills of this Hacker in our film will attract our audience, because technical skills is seen a lot in many thriller films. So when the audience see these skills, they will definitely remember that this film they're watching is a thriller, and will become more excited by watching it.
In this embed of the film "Die Hard 4.0" is a picture of the Hacker. He is great technical skills of those that an actual Hacker would have. This attracts our audience as when they see these skills, they will remember that this film is a thriller film that they are watching.
The business man character and mystery man character is angry. This emotion is what most characters in thriller films feel and this is acted really well by actors. The angry emotion in the film appeals a lot to our audience as when they watch our film they will realize and remember that our film they're watching is a thriller film.
In the embed more above on this post, when I was talking about mystery intrigue, you can see that this mystery man is angry. This attracts our audience as when they see this angry emotion in some of the characters they will become excited at watching it as it rises the tension. and it will make the audience realize that the film they're watching is definitely a thriller.
In this embed below you can see a person in the film from "Die Hard 4.0" who looks very angry. This is another example of how angry emotion is used a lot in thriller films. This will attract our audience as like I said before, our audience will be more excited at watching the film. Also they will remember that this film they're watching is definitely a thriller film.

Evaluation Question 4-Who would be the audience for your media product?
This is my mind map for question 4 with the answer.
Because of the elements in our film, we had chosen the BBFC classification to be a 12A
This is a comparable profile of the film "Die Hard: With a Vengeance". As you can see the age range 15-24 that has the highest percentage.
Evaluation Question 3-What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Our Film will be
exhibited in cinema, which will then lead to DVD release. It will be released
during the January period as we don’t want it to go against big blockbuster
films and because of it being a low-budget film.
We want to stream
it onto online sites such as Netflix and any other popular film streaming
websites also because of the same reason it being a low budget film. We don’t
feel that we would get a world-wide release.
It will be released in January as it will be advertised
in cinema.
We would like 20th
Century Fox to distribute our film as it has distributed many which are very
much similar to our Film. The elements in our film are what are very much
involved in many of the other popular films distributed by 20th Century
Fox.
For example in the
film “Die Hard 4.0” the social groups that are re-presented in it are exactly
the same as the ones represented in our film.
An example of a social group represented in our
film that is the same in “Die Hard 4.0” is the hacker group.
There is a hacker
in the “Die Hard 4.0” film and there is also one in our film. This is one of the hackers from Die Hard 4.0 as you can see he isn't wearing a tie, but however he is wearing a shirt as you can see on the top half of his body. This matches the dress sense of an actual Hacker.
There can also be some merchandising products made from this film such as t-shirts, here is an example.
There can also be some merchandising products made from this film such as t-shirts, here is an example.
This is a t-shirt
and has the quote from the film printed onto it, in massive text size and great
font and style to make it stand out. We would maybe do a t-shirt for a film as
t-shirts would be suitable for our target audience.
Here is our Film
production company ident.
